Jinny’s Sketchbook – Incredible Diversity

Jinny kind of flies under the radar in class, she is super quiet. However, her art work is certainly not quiet at all. Jinny is super talented, she experiments with many diverse styles of art. In my opinion, this is what every first year student should do.

Jinny is the type of student that will, out of the blue, shock you with an incredible life drawing in class. It’s so cool flipping through her sketchbook, you are not sure what to expect next. It’s amazing to see how many styles she is flirting with.

Jinny is certainly using first year of college to find her style. I’m not sure if she will land on one particular style, and that is okay. She can pull that off.

There are so many drawings in Jinny’s sketchbook that I can just sit with and enjoy. I hope you will do the same.

Merlin’s Sketchbook – Details

Merlin is currently enrolled in my foundation drawing class at the School Of Visual Arts.

What I love about Merlin’s sketchbook is the variety. She challenges herself to draw many diverse things. From birds, to interiors, to the figure to fan art, variety is her thing.

When you are on a journey to learn how to draw, a great thing to do, especially at the beginning of your journey is to draw diverse things. This will open your up to see what you like to draw.

Merlin has such strong line, she is very confident with her artwork, she powers in the lines beautifully.

The other great aspect of looking into Merlin’s sketchbook, you can tell right away that she is having fun with what she is drawing. She is diving right into drawing difficult poses and things like complicated birds. Do your best to follow Merlin’s lead, having fun while challenging yourself to improve.

YeFei’s Sketchbook – Incredible

Every so often I get a student that has a perfect combination of raw talent, an incredible work ethic, tons of passion, and a good sense of humor. Yefei is that student.

I will let his sketchbook speak for itself. This one does not start slow, however, Yifei improves immensely as the sketchbook progresses.

As you look through Yefei’s sketchbook you will start to see a passion for history, specifically the history of Yefei’s home country, China. Personally, I would like to see him push this historic narrative in his work.

When working as an illustrator, the books I enjoyed working on the most were history books. I enjoyed painting historical costumes and all that came with the timeframe of the 1800s.

There are so many things to take away from Yefei’s sketchbook. One is to draw what you are passionate about no matter what anyone tells you, and, work hard. Yefei does not do one drawing for the assigned homework, he does five. We can all learn from Yefei.

Julia’s Sketchbook

Julia is first to represent her class this fall semester at the School Of Visual Arts. I really like Julia’s sketchbook.

I like all of Julia’s intricate little line drawings. The way she uses lines within her character design is awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing how that progresses in the months to come.

I also love how Julia draws facial expressions. Not an easy thing to do, Julia has that down pat.

After watching this sketchbook I noticed that Julia flipped through some pages a little too fast. No worries, I added a bunch of screenshots of her sketchbook below. Enjoy!

Jasper’s Sketchbooks

Jasper was a student enrolled in my foundation drawing class at the School of Visual Arts. The semester has now come to a close and I am certainly going to miss the class.

Jasper, in particular, was truly such a great student to have in class. His life drawings were spectacular for a first-year student. We could have just filmed Jasper’s life drawing pad and I think we really should have. I will save that project for next semester.

Looking through Jasper’s sketchbooks is certainly inspiring. I truly love everything about them. The color, line, texture, and attention to detail.

What I love most about looking through Jasper’s sketchbooks in the boldness of just diving into a drawing. I hope you take some inspiration from his sketchbooks today.
