Drawing Michelangelo Livestream

Drawing Michelangelo Livestream

In this livestream, I explore key elements of Michelangelo’s drawing style that can significantly improve the quality of your figure drawing—particularly his use of edges.

Michelangelo’s figure edges are highly complex, filled with micro-angles and subtle shifts. His use of convex lines that roll into the body adds a remarkable sense of form and volume.

In the first part of the livestream, I demonstrate this by copying a section of one of his drawings. In the second part, we apply these techniques to drawing a figure from photo reference.

Livestream Figure Drawing Session

Livestream Figure Drawing Session

In this livestream I will be focusing on drawing the figure using the Prismacolor Col-Erase pencil on white Stratmore drawing paper. I will break down this pose for you in multiple ways.

During the first part of the stream I will be teaching you how I warm up before drawing. We will then dive into thinking about how to see the figure in three basic shapes. I will then progress onto drawing the figure.

Later on in the livestream I share with you some of my older artworks. This was a fun stream. I hope you will enjoy it. I know I did.

I worked on the drawing below for roughly 1:45.

Figure Drawing Livestream – Long Pose

Figure Drawing Livestream – Long Pose

In this live stream we tackle one pose. First, we break down the pose demonstrating multiple figure drawing techniques. We then dive into drawing the pose from scratch. Instead of using my trusty Prismacolor Col-Erase pencil, I worked with a found mechanical pencil. I do believe that the graphite was HB or B.

I worked on Strathmore 400 series 80 LBS paper. After the live stream I worked on the drawing for an hour and a half. If you like spending time on just one drawing, this lesson is for you.
