Drawing Michelangelo Livestream

Drawing Michelangelo Livestream

In this livestream, I explore key elements of Michelangelo’s drawing style that can significantly improve the quality of your figure drawing—particularly his use of edges.

Michelangelo’s figure edges are highly complex, filled with micro-angles and subtle shifts. His use of convex lines that roll into the body adds a remarkable sense of form and volume.

In the first part of the livestream, I demonstrate this by copying a section of one of his drawings. In the second part, we apply these techniques to drawing a figure from photo reference.

Drawing The Figure With White Charcoal – Livestream

Drawing The Figure With White Charcoal – Livestream

In this livestream, I’ll be drawing the figure using a combination of black Prismacolor Col-Erase pencil and white charcoal pencil — a great pairing for creating depth, contrast, and subtle form.

First, I’ll start with a full demonstration of how to approach and construct the pose using the black Col-Erase pencil. Then, in the second part of the session, I’ll refine selected areas of the figure with white charcoal to show how to build highlights and enhance the three-dimensional quality of the drawing.

This process is excellent for learning how to balance line, value, and form — whether you’re working traditionally or looking to improve your digital figure drawing skills.

How To Draw The Figure In Ten Minutes

How To Draw The Figure In Ten Minutes

Well, here we are in this strange situation, Covid-19. I have basically turned off the news and have resorted to watching Tiger something on Netflix.

I have been super busy with this whole live class thing. Primarily teaching my college classes on Zoom. I have also been teaching live classes to members of DTO every Saturday.

Come mid to late April I will be teaching live classes to non-members of Drawing Tutorials Online. I’ve been working out the kinks in recording on Zoom. The quality is not great.

In the meantime I wanted to share with you this gesture drawing. I think you will most certainly get something out of watching this short figure drawing tutorial.

Please let me know if you have any questions about my technique.

Thank you so much for taking time to stop by and visit. Stay safe.

Yifei’s Sketchbook – Number Two

Yifei’s Sketchbook – Number Two

Yifei is such an incredible student to have in class. He really puts his all into everything that he does. From life drawing, to homework, to class projects, you can totally see the effort.

Yefei’s sketchbook is in essence, his diary. It’s a diary of his student life here in NYC. Yefei is such an incredible talent. He is able to draw in such detail, then switch gears and draw simple cute stuff.

For me the key takeaway from his sketchbook is the passion he has for drawing. You can clearly see that he uses his sketchbook in every part of his life. Today, many artists use their phones to document there lives. Yefei is using his sketchbook.

He certainly has a bright future. He is a true storyteller. I hope you enjoyed looking through his sketchbook as much as I did.
