Lin’s Sketchbook

Lin’s Sketchbook

Gosh I’m really not even sure where to start with this blog post. Lin was a student enrolled in my drawing class last year at the School of Visual Arts. I guess I can start with the fact that Lin was the heart of the class. She really is the nicest person ever. Lin is the hardest working student truly devoted to improving everyday.

The cool story about Lin was that she started watching student sketchbook videos years ago when she was in Junior High. The student sketchbook videos were what inspired her to attend the School of Visual Arts.

When she arrived in class and told me her story I was blown away. Lin was pretty much the first to arrive each week which was great because we developed a friendship very early on. I really enjoyed talking with Lin about her home state of North Carolina. A place I would really like to move to in all honesty.

I must say Lin is voted most improved student no doubt. Lin arrived to class with a solid base of skill. Her skillset really took off in the Spring semester after a few frustrating classes. It was great to see Lin fight through the plateau’s every artist has to confront from time to time.

Lin continues to visit my class letting me know the scoop of what’s going on at SVA which I love. I also love to see her progression with her latest sketchbooks!

Alice’s Last Sketchbook – Maybe

Alice’s Last Sketchbook – Maybe

It’s basically one month and one day before I start teaching a whole new group of students at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. I still have some sketchbook videos that I really need to post. This is a short but sweet sketchbook that Alice worked on when she was all out of ideas. She just did a bunch of drawings while watching Netflix. She was having a creative slump and worked through it wonderfully.

If you have ever been through a creative slump, or just didn’t feel like creating any art, it’s important that you at least continue to draw. It’s important to look at new artists.

Simply drawing each day in your sketchbook will open up new creative channels that you never thought existed. Of course every artist does need a break from time to time. But just keep sketching. It will keep your eye hand coordination up to speed.

Thanks for watching.

P.K.’s Sketchbook Drawings

P.K.’s Sketchbook Drawings

P.K. is a really interesting guy. His drawings are really unique. He draws exclusively is pen. He loves to draw strange quirky characters pushing them to there limits.

P.K. has a really interesting story. He asked to join my class mid way through the academic year. He completely missed the Fall semester with my class. The Fall semester is where I really drill the basics into my students. P.K. has really added something dynamic to the classroom. Which is a gift coming in mid way through.

His drawing is quite different than the rest of the class. I love academic style drawings. However I also love variety just as much. I really get inspired when my students apply the academic principles that I teach to their own personal style. P.K. does this with ease.

Originally from Tanzania P.K. found one of my early sketchbook videos on youtube. This inspired him to apply to classes at the School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan New York. That for me is an awesome story.

I am really honored that my vids on youtube inspired P.K. to take action and pursue his dreams of becoming an animation director.

Hopefully P.K.’s sketchbook video will inspire you to take action and pursue your dreams!
