YeFei’s Sketchbook – Incredible

YeFei’s Sketchbook – Incredible

Every so often I get a student that has a perfect combination of raw talent, an incredible work ethic, tons of passion, and a good sense of humor. Yefei is that student.

I will let his sketchbook speak for itself. This one does not start slow, however, Yifei improves immensely as the sketchbook progresses.

As you look through Yefei’s sketchbook you will start to see a passion for history, specifically the history of Yefei’s home country, China. Personally, I would like to see him push this historic narrative in his work.

When working as an illustrator, the books I enjoyed working on the most were history books. I enjoyed painting historical costumes and all that came with the timeframe of the 1800s.

There are so many things to take away from Yefei’s sketchbook. One is to draw what you are passionate about no matter what anyone tells you, and, work hard. Yefei does not do one drawing for the assigned homework, he does five. We can all learn from Yefei.

Joie’s Sketchbook – Creativity – Originality

Joie’s Sketchbook – Creativity – Originality

Last years drawing class was pretty brilliant. A lot of great friendships were made last year in class. Joie was a student that just had so much creativity. She loved the short stuff, hated the long drawings. As a matter of fact Joie really hated doing any drawing that was longer than a twenty minute pose.

Over the years I have learned that being able to work on short gesture drawings is just as important as the long stuff. If you just work on long academic type drawings that could lead to stiffness. The short duration gesture type drawings that Joie loves so much loosen your work up.

Hopefully over the years Joie will acquire a taste for that balance of working on short gesture drawing and long duration drawings.

Umm, somethings tells me Joie will stick to her short stuff. Her creativity is really inspiring. Her energy is inspiring as well. I trust you will enjoy looking through her sketchbook no matter what style of drawing you like.

Hyoin’s Sketchbook

Hyoin’s Sketchbook

Hyoin is just one of those students who turns everything into gold. Her life drawings are just really beautiful.

Having Hyoin as a student is pretty special. She powers in her life drawings with so much energy and passion. As Hyoin draws she fills most of the 18 x 24 pad which is what I love. There is nothing timid about her work.

The look and feel of her China marker type drawings on newsprint in class is something pretty special.

Her sketchbook takes on a whole different vibe itself with all of the bold color and delicate detailed line.

There is nothing really traditional about Hyoin’s work and that’s what I really like about it. As you can see in her sketchbook she can really turn on the traditional jets when she wants to.

Thanks so much for sharing your sketchbook with us Hyoin. It’s really inspiring!

At this time Hyoin has no social media. She is totally focused on her work.
